Jim Wren’s distinguished career encompasses roles as an esteemed educator of trial advocacy and an expert practitioner of trial advocacy. His presence significantly enhances White Carlson Wren & Cook’s approach to complex legal matters.

Jim has trained thousands of attorneys across the country in trial law.

Wren will continue as the Director of Practice Court and the Leon Jaworski Chair of Practice and Procedure at Baylor Law until he transitions from the full-time faculty during the 2024-25 academic year.

A proud alumnus of Baylor Law, Wren graduated cum laude with a J.D. in 1980 and furthered his education with an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury in 1982.

With a deep array of civil jury trials spanning several decades and continuing throughout his teaching career, Jim brings extensive civil litigation expertise. He served as national president of the National Board of Trial Advocacy from 2009 through 2011 and continues to serve on the NBTA national board of directors executive committee. He is the current president of American Board of Trial Advocates Waco chapter. He co-authors multiple books in litigation including Proving Damages to the Jury (with Laura Brown),  Texas Commercial Causes of Action (with Liz Fraley) and Texas Trial Procedure & Evidence (with Jeremy Counseller).
